General Auditions

General Auditions for the 2011-12 choir year are complete.

Auditions for 2012-13 will be held in April and May 2012. Please check on or after March 15, 2012 for audition dates and times.

Membership

Membership in the Choir is a commitment to faithful, consistent and punctual attendance at all rehearsals and performances.

The Viva and Concert Choirs rehearse once a week between 4:15 and 5:30 p.m., and the Chamber Choir rehearses once a week between 4:15 and 6:15 p.m. and one Saturday afternoon per month.

Parents and guardians of choristers are automatically members of the Choir, which entitles them to vote at the annual general meeting. Each member is invited to participate as a volunteer in the activities of the organization to ensure its success and continuity. A fund-raising deposit is a required component of membership.

Choral festivals at home and abroad are enriching experiences and parents are expected to allow choristers to benefit from these opportunities. Major tours are proposed to a full meeting of the parents involved for their approval, and supported financially by families, the choir and special fundraising activities.

Joining Viva

Prerequisites Interest and a successful audition. No previous musical training is required.
Age range 8 - 11 years
(Age 8 as of Sept. 1 - entering Grade 3)
Length of membership 1-2 years
Time off school 2 days per year
Registration fee $410 in two instalments due with acceptance form
Fundraising deposit $100
Rehearsals Thursdays - McNabb Centre
4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Extra rehearsals as necessary

Joining Concert

Prerequisites Interest and a successful audition
Age range 10 - 15 years
Length of membership 1 - 3 years
Time off school 1 - 4 days per year
Registration fee $460 in two instalments due with acceptance form
Fundraising deposit $100
Rehearsals Tuesdays - McNabb Centre
4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Extra rehearsals as necessary

Joining Chamber

Prerequisites At least one full year in Concert Choir or previous choral experience of the same level.
Age range 11 - 15 years
Length of membership 1 - 5 years
Time off school 3 - 5 days per year plus tours and recordings
Registration fee $615 in two instalments due with acceptance form
Fundraising deposit $100
Rehearsals Wednesdays - McNabb Centre
4:15 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
One Saturday per month
Extra rehearsals as necessary

Volunteers and Fundraising

The Ottawa Children's Choir depends on volunteers for its continued operation. All parents are asked to complete a Volunteer Form indicating their specific interests. This helps in determining the committees and areas for parent participation.

A fundraising deposit of $100 per family is a required component of membership. The choir keeps track of each family's contribution to fund-raising and at the end of the year calculates the portion each family is to be refunded. If the family returns this money to the choir as a donation, a tax receipt is issued.
